Exhibition Place, in one paragraph
Exhibition Place is the 190-acre grounds on Lake Shore Boulevard West between Strachan Avenue and Dufferin Street, and its corporate venues are the Enercare Centre (Canada's largest exhibition hall, a million square feet, entered from Princes' Boulevard), the Beanfield Centre (the conference centre in the former Automotive Building at the eastern end), Hotel X (on the grounds, with its own driveway) and BMO Field. Cars enter by the Princes' Gate (from Lake Shore at Strachan, the ceremonial east entrance), the Dufferin Gate (from Dufferin Street, the west), or the Strachan Avenue entrance from the north, and the halls' drop-offs are on Princes' Boulevard and Manitoba Drive. From Pearson the grounds are 25 to 35 minutes off-peak and 45 to 75 at the peaks via the Gardiner's Lake Shore or Jameson exits; from the Financial District 10 to 15. The CNE (late August), the Honda Indy (July) and BMO Field's games close gates and roads, and the grounds' events calendar decides the route.
Exhibition Place is where Toronto's largest trade shows live — the Enercare Centre's halls host the Auto Show's overflow, the Home Show, the Boat Show, the National Home Show, the food and packaging shows, the technology conferences that outgrow the MTCC — and where the Beanfield Centre hosts the conferences that want a lakeshore setting and Hotel X the delegates who want to walk to them. It is also a fairground with a road system built for the Canadian National Exhibition, a stadium that draws 30,000 for Toronto FC and the Argonauts, a racetrack for one weekend a year, and a set of gates that open and close by event. For a black car moving a show's executives, exhibitors' clients and speakers, the grounds are a study in which gate is open, which drop-off is nearest the hall, and what else is happening that day. This article covers the venues and their entrances, the gates and the approaches from the Gardiner and Lake Shore, the airport and downtown timings, the shuttle-versus-VIP-car decision, load-in and the docks, Hotel X and the west end's hotels, the events that close the grounds, and the account and the coordinator that make a show week run.

The venues and their entrances
The Enercare Centre (100 Princes' Boulevard) is the exhibition hall: its main entrances are on Princes' Boulevard (the halls' south side, with the Heritage Court) and on Manitoba Drive at the north side, and a show's drop-off is whichever entrance the organiser designates for the hall in use — Hall A at the eastern end, Halls B through G westward; the booking should say which. The Beanfield Centre (105 Princes' Boulevard) is the conference centre at the grounds' eastern end, entered from Princes' Boulevard beside the Enercare Centre's Hall A, with a drop-off at its doors. Hotel X (111 Princes' Boulevard) has its own driveway and porte-cochère at the grounds' south-east corner, reached from Lake Shore via the Princes' Gate or the hotel's own access. BMO Field (170 Princes' Boulevard) is the stadium at the grounds' centre with its gates on Princes' Boulevard and Manitoba Drive; the BMO Field article covers game days. The Coliseum, the Better Living Centre and the Queen Elizabeth Building host the smaller shows and the CNE's exhibits.
The gates and the approaches
The Princes' Gate — the ceremonial arch at the eastern end, on Lake Shore Boulevard at Strachan — is the main car entrance for the Enercare and Beanfield Centres and Hotel X, reached from the Gardiner's Lake Shore Boulevard exit westbound or from Lake Shore itself; on show days it has a marshalled queue. The Dufferin Gate at the western end, on Dufferin Street south of the Gardiner, serves the western halls and the CNE's midway, reached from the Gardiner's Dufferin or Jameson exits. The Strachan Avenue entrance from the north, over the rail corridor from Liberty Village, is the back way in and the one the chauffeur uses when Lake Shore is closed. The grounds' internal roads — Princes' Boulevard, Manitoba Drive, Nunavut Road, Newfoundland Road — are one-way in parts and reversed for events; the chauffeur reads the day's plan and the event limo page has the method.
From Pearson and from downtown
From Pearson the grounds are the 427 south and the Gardiner east to the Lake Shore Boulevard exit at Jameson or Dufferin, or on to the Lake Shore at Strachan for the Princes' Gate — 25 to 35 minutes off-peak and 45 to 75 at the peaks; from the Financial District the Gardiner west to Lake Shore or Lake Shore itself, 10 to 15 minutes; from Yorkville 20 to 30 via Bathurst or Dufferin; from Billy Bishop 10 minutes along Lake Shore. The Pearson to downtown hotels article has the Gardiner's timings and the Liberty Village guide the neighbourhood immediately north.
Shuttle or VIP car: the show's decision
A trade show's organiser moves three kinds of people: the public and the trade visitors (by transit — the Exhibition GO station and the 509 and 511 streetcars serve the grounds — and by the organiser's shuttle buses from the downtown hotels), the exhibitors' staff (by the same), and the executives, speakers, sponsors and clients (by black car). The black car's role is the third group: the sponsor's CEO from Pearson to Hotel X, the keynote speaker from the Royal York to the Beanfield Centre's door, an exhibitor's client from a King West dinner to the hall's VIP entrance; the conference transportation article covers the MTCC's version and the trade shows article the season across both venues. A shuttle bus for eighty is the limo bus's cousin and is booked through dispatch for a sponsor's hospitality programme.

Load-in, the docks and the exhibitor's week
The Enercare Centre's loading docks are on its north side off Manitoba Drive, and load-in and load-out days fill the grounds' roads with trucks and forklifts; an exhibitor's executives arriving during load-in are dropped at the Princes' Boulevard entrance rather than the docks, and the chauffeur knows the marshals' pattern. An exhibitor's week — the load-in, the preview evening, the show days, the load-out — is a series of bookings on the exhibitor's corporate account: the executives' airport runs, the clients' dinners, the Sprinter for the booth team, and the corporate account billing article shows the show as one cost code.
Hotel X and the west end's hotels
Hotel X is the only hotel on the grounds — a resort-style tower at the south-east corner with a porte-cochère off its own driveway, lake views and a rooftop the sponsors book — and a delegate staying there walks to the Beanfield Centre and the Enercare's Hall A in five minutes; the Liberty Village and King West hotels (the Thompson, the Drake, the Gladstone) are ten minutes by car via Strachan or King, and the downtown hotels fifteen to twenty via the Gardiner or Lake Shore. The Liberty Village guide covers the neighbourhood's restaurants for the show's dinners and the Entertainment District guide King West's.
The events that close the grounds
The CNE — the Canadian National Exhibition, eighteen days from mid-August to Labour Day — fills the grounds with a million visitors and closes the Princes' Gate and the internal roads to all but the Ex's own traffic; the Enercare Centre hosts the CNE's exhibits and corporate events on the grounds move to the CNE article's plan. The Honda Indy in July turns Lake Shore Boulevard and the grounds' roads into a race track for a weekend, with closures from the Wednesday before; the Honda Indy article has the plan. BMO Field's Toronto FC and Argonauts games and concerts close Princes' Boulevard to general traffic for three hours before and after; the BMO Field article covers it. The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in November fills the Coliseum and the Enercare Centre for ten days; the Royal article covers it. Dispatch reads Exhibition Place's calendar for every booking on the grounds.
The account and the coordinator
A show's transportation is booked on the organiser's or the sponsor's account with a coordinator as the booker — a manifest of names, flights, hotels and the halls' entrances a week ahead, a coordinator from our staff at Pearson's arrivals hall on the arrival days for a large show, an hourly fleet at the Princes' Boulevard drop-off for the show days, and one statement; the executive assistants' guide describes the booker's week and the group transfers article the delegations.
A worked show: a technology conference at the Enercare Centre
Two weeks ahead: the manifest — sixty speakers and sponsors, forty flights, Hotel X and six downtown hotels. Day minus one: our coordinator at Terminal 1 from noon; arrivals to Hotel X via the Princes' Gate in 30 minutes off-peak; the afternoon bank's arrivals to the Royal York in 60. Day one: an hourly fleet of three at the Princes' Boulevard drop-off from 6:30; a keynote speaker from the Shangri-La to the Beanfield Centre's door at 8:15; a sponsor's Sprinter from Hotel X to a King West dinner at 7 and back at 11. Day two: the same, with a Toronto FC game at BMO Field closing Princes' Boulevard from 4 — the fleet repositioned to the Strachan entrance and the organiser's desk told at noon. Day three: the departures. One account, one cost code, and a coordinator who never drove onto the grounds.

Booking Exhibition Place transport
The corporate car service page opens the account; the manifest goes to dispatch by email with the halls' entrances; the trade shows article covers the season and the event limo page the method for the grounds' other events.
Transit and parking, for the people not in the car
Exhibition Place has an Exhibition GO station on the Lakeshore West line at its north-east corner, the 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst streetcars at its loop, and thousands of parking spaces that fill by mid-morning on a show day at rates that rise with the event; an organiser's shuttle from the downtown hotels runs from Front Street. A black car's passengers are the ones whose time the organiser is paying for; the rest arrive by these, and the UP Express comparison makes the same honest distinction for the airport.
Booking notes for Exhibition Place
Three small things. Name the venue and the hall — "Enercare Centre, Hall B, Princes' Boulevard entrance" — because the grounds are 190 acres and the halls have two sides. Give the date's context if you know it — "there's a TFC game that evening" — and dispatch checks the rest. And for a show week, put the whole week's manifest in one email; the fleet is assigned from it and the statement is one document.
The grounds in winter and the shows that fill them
November to March is Exhibition Place's indoor season — the Royal in November, the Boat Show in January, the Auto Show's overflow in February, the National Home Show in March — and the grounds' roads in a January storm are the last the city plows; the winter driving article covers the season and the chauffeur adds time for the Princes' Gate's queue in snow. In summer the CNE and the Indy take the grounds, and the corporate calendar moves to the MTCC.
