The QEW west, and the alternative above it
From Pearson to Oakville is the 427 south and the QEW west: 30 to 40 minutes off-peak and 50 to 75 at the peaks to downtown Oakville, when the QEW through Mississauga and the 427's merge are the region's second-worst stretch. Burlington is 40 to 50 and 60 to 90; Hamilton (downtown) 55 to 70 and 80 to 110 via the QEW and 403. The 407 — the 427 north to the 407, west across Vaughan and Halton to Trafalgar, Dundas or its end at the 403 near Burlington — is 35 to 45 minutes to Oakville's north, 45 to 55 to Burlington and 60 to 75 to Hamilton at almost any hour, at a distance-based toll the engine shows. Our rule: the QEW off-peak; the 407 at the peaks and on the QEW's closure days, approved at booking. For Burlington and Hamilton passengers on sun and discount routes, Hamilton's airport is often the closer choice.
The Queen Elizabeth Way is Ontario's oldest freeway and its western GTA spine: from the 427 at Pearson's foot it runs south-west through Mississauga's Dixie, Cawthra and Hurontario corridors, along Oakville's lakeshore, through Burlington and over the Skyway's high bridge into Hamilton, where it splits for Niagara and the 403. Between the 427 and Oakville it carries the west's commute and, at the peaks, it stops. Above it, the 407 crosses Halton's top from the 401 near Milton to its western end at the 403 in Burlington, flowing at any hour at a toll. This article works Pearson to the west: the QEW's timing by hour to each city, the 407's alternative and cost, Oakville's lakeshore and its north, Burlington's waterfront and Aldershot, the Skyway and the 403, Hamilton's downtown, McMaster and the Mountain, the head-office corridor along the QEW, the schools and the hospitals, Hamilton's own airport as the alternative for the west's travellers, and the days the QEW is closed.

The QEW: timing by hour to Oakville
From Door A via the 427 south and the QEW west to Trafalgar Road (downtown Oakville), 35 kilometres: 5 to 6:30 a.m., 28 to 32 minutes; 6:30 to 9:30, 45 to 65 (westbound is the lighter morning direction, but the 427's merge and Mississauga are heavy); 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., 32 to 42; 3 to 6:30 p.m., 55 to 80, the worst window, with the QEW westbound carrying the evening exodus; 6:30 to 10 p.m., 35 to 45; after 10, 30 to 35. Summer Fridays and the Sunday evenings of long weekends add fifteen to thirty minutes for the Niagara traffic. The rush hour article has the pattern.
Oakville: the lakeshore, downtown, Bronte and the north
Downtown Oakville and the harbour are the QEW's Trafalgar Road exit and south; the Morrison and Ford estates and Appleby College the Trafalgar or Royal Windsor exits; Bronte the Bronte Road exit; Glen Abbey and River Oaks the Dorval exit and north; the Uptown Core and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital the Trafalgar exit and north to Dundas; North Oakville's new subdivisions the 407's Trafalgar or Neyagawa interchanges. For the lakeshore and downtown the QEW is the route at all but the peak hours; for the north, the 407 is often shorter at any hour. The Oakville guide covers the town's neighbourhoods, the schools' boarders and the harbour's weddings.
The 407 across Halton: when it wins
The 427 north to the 407 and west — through Vaughan's Woodbridge, past the 400 and the 410, across Halton Hills to Trafalgar Road, Neyagawa, Dundas Street, Appleby Line, Guelph Line and its end at the 403 — is 35 to 45 minutes to North Oakville, 45 to 55 to Burlington's north and 60 to 75 to Hamilton via the 403, at any hour, at a toll of 45 to 60 kilometres at the time's rate. At the peaks it saves twenty to forty minutes to Oakville's north and Burlington and ten to twenty to Hamilton; off-peak it saves nothing and costs the toll, and the chauffeur stays on the QEW. The 407 article has the rates and the rule; the 407 is offered as a line item on every booking west of the 427 and used only when it helps.

Burlington: downtown, the waterfront, Aldershot and the north
Downtown Burlington and Spencer Smith Park are the QEW's Brant Street exit and south; Roseland and the lakeshore the Guelph Line or Walkers Line exits; Aldershot the 403's Waterdown Road or the QEW's Plains Road; the Orchard, Millcroft and Alton the Appleby Line and Walkers Line exits and north; Joseph Brant Hospital the Brant Street exit and south to Lakeshore. From Pearson the QEW is 40 to 50 minutes off-peak and 60 to 90 at the peaks to downtown; the 407 to Appleby or Guelph Line and south is 45 to 55 at any hour. The Burlington guide covers the city, the RBG's weddings and the two-airport choice.
The Skyway, the 403 and the way into Hamilton
At Burlington's western edge the QEW crosses the harbour's entrance on the Burlington Skyway — a high bridge that closes in high winds a few times a year, when the Eastport Drive lift bridge below carries the traffic at a crawl — and continues toward Niagara; the 403 leaves the QEW at the Freeman interchange (before the Skyway) and runs west around the bay into Hamilton's north end, past the harbour's industry, to the downtown exits (Main Street, York Boulevard) and on to McMaster's Main Street West and the Mountain's Lincoln Alexander Parkway. From Pearson to downtown Hamilton is 55 to 70 minutes off-peak and 80 to 110 at the peaks; to McMaster 60 to 75 and 85 to 115; to Ancaster via the 403 west 65 to 80. The Hamilton guide covers the city's hospitals, the university and the escarpment.
Hamilton: downtown, McMaster, the Mountain and Ancaster
Downtown Hamilton's hotels and the hospitals (Hamilton General, St. Joseph's) are the 403's York or Main exits; McMaster and Westdale the 403's Main Street West exit; the Juravinski and the Mountain the Lincoln Alexander Parkway or the Jolley Cut; Ancaster the 403 west to Wilson Street; Stoney Creek the QEW east over the Skyway to Centennial Parkway; Waterdown the 403 to Highway 6 north. Our Hamilton work is disproportionately medical and academic — visiting physicians from Pearson to McMaster with meet and greet via the 407 and 403, families from across Ontario at the Juravinski, international students at McMaster — and the healthcare executive transport article and the convocation article cover the patterns.
The QEW corridor's head offices
The head offices along the QEW's North Service Road, Winston Churchill and the 403 in Oakville (Ford Canada, Siemens, the pharmaceutical and insurance companies), along Harvester, Mainway and the North Service Road in Burlington, and in Hamilton's downtown and Innovation Park generate the corporate pattern from Pearson: the airport run with the 407 approved on the account for the peaks, client pickups with meet and greet, hourly days for visiting executives from Detroit and Europe, and the Sprinter to a Toronto client dinner. Corporate accounts hold the campus's lay-by and the 407 policy; the Oakville and Burlington guides cover the corridor.
Hamilton's airport: the alternative for the west
For a Burlington, Hamilton or Oakville passenger on a Flair or sun route, Hamilton's airport at Mount Hope is 25 to 45 minutes away against Pearson's 40 to 110, and the Hamilton airport article works the choice; the Burlington guide treats Hamilton as the default for sun flights. A Pearson-to-Hamilton-airport transfer — a passenger connecting between an international arrival and a Flair departure — is 55 to 75 minutes via the QEW and Highway 6, and the connecting flights article mentions it.
The schools and the boarders
Appleby College in Oakville and the private schools of the west bring boarders through Pearson in September and January, and a parent abroad booking a Pearson pickup with meet and greet and the handover at the school's front office is the unaccompanied minors guide's booking, with the QEW or the 407 as the hour dictates. The Oakville guide describes Appleby's loop.
The days the QEW is closed
The QEW between the 427 and Burlington closes for serious collisions a few times a month and for construction overnight most weeks; the Skyway closes in high winds. Dispatch sees the closures on the provincial feed; the chauffeur's alternatives are the 407 across the top (if approved), Dundas Street and Lakeshore Road through the towns (each adds twenty to forty minutes), and the 403 and Highway 6 for Hamilton; the winter driving article covers the season when the Skyway's closures are most frequent.
A worked example: Los Angeles to Roseland, Burlington, 4 p.m.
Air Canada from LAX lands at Terminal 1 at 15:45 on a Thursday. The passenger — a Burlington executive returning — texts from the domestic carousel at 16:05; the chauffeur is at Door A at 16:09. The QEW is red from the 427 to Oakville. The 407 was approved on the corporate account; the 427 north, the 407 west to Guelph Line (52 kilometres at the peak rate), Guelph Line south to Lakeshore, the Roseland driveway at 17:05. Fifty-six minutes; the QEW would have been eighty-five. The account's statement shows the fare, the HST and the toll.

Booking the run west
The engine shows the 407 line item and its estimated toll for any Halton or Hamilton address; approve it and the chauffeur uses it only when the QEW is broken. The Pearson page has the airport's procedure and the Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton guides the destinations.
The lakeshore villages: Port Credit, Bronte and the QEW's exits
Between Pearson and Oakville the QEW passes Mississauga's lakeshore — Port Credit at Hurontario, Lorne Park and Clarkson at Erin Mills and Southdown — and a passenger bound for Port Credit's village or Clarkson's estates leaves the QEW before Oakville, at 20 to 30 minutes off-peak; the Mississauga guide covers the lakeshore. Bronte, Oakville's western harbour village, is the QEW's Bronte Road exit and south, 35 to 45 minutes; the harbours' summer festivals close Lakeshore Road in both towns for weekends, and dispatch has the dates.
The hospitals of the west
Oakville Trafalgar Memorial on Dundas Street, Joseph Brant on Burlington's waterfront, and Hamilton's tertiary network — Hamilton General, St. Joseph's, the Juravinski, McMaster University Medical Centre and Children's — bring patients' families and visiting physicians through Pearson, and the run from Door A to each is on the chauffeur's map with the entrance loop; the healthcare executive transport article covers the visiting-physician pattern and the medical appointments article the standing orders. A relative flying in from abroad to visit a patient at the Juravinski is met with meet and greet and taken directly to the Concession Street entrance.
Booking notes for the west
Three small things. Approve the 407 as a contingency on afternoon bookings west of the 427; the QEW's peak through Oakville is the reason. For Burlington and Hamilton passengers on sun and discount routes, price Hamilton's airport in the engine before booking Pearson — from there it is often the shorter drive. And give the school's or the hospital's entrance in the notes; Appleby's loop and the Juravinski's entrance are on the map but the booking should say which.
A second worked example: the 4 a.m. Ancaster departure
Sunwing to Varadero leaves Terminal 3 at 06:20 on a Saturday. An Ancaster couple has a 03:50 pickup; the chauffeur texts from the driveway at 03:48, loads two bags, and takes Wilson Street to the 403, the 403 east around the bay, the QEW east over the Skyway — empty — through Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga to the 427 and Terminal 3's departures curb at 04:52. Sixty-two minutes on roads that will take a hundred by 8 a.m. The return in a week lands at 22:40 and they are home by midnight; the Hamilton airport version of the same holiday would have been a twenty-minute drive each way, which is the Hamilton airport article's whole argument.
